Cavalum is a company dedicated to the promotion and development of electrical Energy Production using renewable resources.
A synonym of eco-awareness and sustained progress.

Company Structure

The corporate structure is private and, as a rule, Cavalum owns the majority of the share capital of its affiliates.

Operation mode

Cavalum is a Holding Company that manages the special purpose vehicles (SPV) for the investments made.
Investments by type of resource are financed by Cavalum up to the execution phase, when SPVs are created.
The Holding Company manages the companies incorporated for each project, as well as its development and the sale of energy to the national network.

Investment

Cavalum is a Holding Company that actively manages its investments through an analysis of returns on each project, seeking to focus on more mature markets with better conditions and guarantees for success.

Given the energy market conditions in Portugal, Cavalum has put an emphasis on internationalisation in recent years in order to take advantage of regions with greater investment potential, in areas in which it can make use of the valuable knowledge it has acquired over the years in this market.

It is intended that the pace of its expansion is made on a sustainable basis, with sound growth based on an appropriate capital structure and with a guarantee of generating flows compatible with the planned levels of investment.
Favouring action in partnership in the form of co-investment as principal investor and majority shareholder.

1995

• Carlos Cardoso and Pereira da Cunha decided to start the Cavalum Lda. hydroelectric business cluster for the construction of a hydroelectric plant in Penafiel.

2001

• Connection to the national network of Cavalum's 1st undertaking - the Senhorim mini-hydro in Rio Castelo in Nelas.

2002 a 2005

• Licensing of hydro and wind operations in Portugal.

2005

• Acquisition of 1st natural gas cogeneration operation - Cogesac - Cogeração do Ave, Lda.

2006

• Construction and putting into service of the 1st wind park in Portugal.
• Transformation of Cavalum into SGPS SA.
• Construction and putting into service of the 1st photovoltaic plant in Portugal - Cavalum Photovoltaic in Mazouco.
• Opening of the capital of Cavalum to a new partner - Strassen SGPS, SA.

2007

• Start of Cavalum's internationalisation process.
• Definitive focus on the diversification of energy sources with particular emphasis on solar photovoltaic power.
• Cavalum acquires a majority stake in a French company to operate a Wind Farm.
• The first 100% Spanish Cavalum company is incorporated.
• The capital shares of Carlos Cardoso and Pereira da Cunha are acquired by Arco Atlântico SGPS SA.

2008

• Consolidation of internationalisation with a growing presence in Spain and France.
• Putting into service of 5 photovoltaic parks in Spain (11MW) and 1 solar photovoltaic park in Portugal (2 MW).
• The first 100% French Cavalum company is incorporated.

2009

• Consolidation and development of internationalisation with the start-up of the 1st wind farm abroad (10 Mw in Brittany).
